Epictetus on

From everything which is or that happens in the world, it is easy to give praise to God [Providence], if a man possesses these two qualities, first the faculty of seeing what belongs and happens to all people & things in this world and not just particular to himself, and two, a humble disposition.

If  Man does not possess these two qualities, then in the first case,  man will not see [how to  use ] things which happen for his avail; and will not be thankful for them, because even if he does know how to use them, he thinks he is the one that found them.
