Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon, Myanmar

Tabaung is the month of Pagoda festivals. It is  observed on March 21st (the first day of Spring) of every year in Burma.

Each month of the Burmese calendar is marked by a festival and Tabuang festival is marked by the building of sand stupas.

Town folks  take a few days off from work and visit relatives in other parts of the country.

For paddy farmers it is a well earned rest after bringing in the harvest. Boat races are held during the festival and on the last day. It is the one of the most spectacular festivities in Myanmar.  The towering golden stupa—the most revered Buddhist temple in the country—dominates the Yangon skyline and is said to house relics from four Buddhas.
