Food: Mum’s Pot Roast

Mum was a horrible cook.  Her parents had owned a diner and so she had little interest in it, because she could always get good food there.  They were quite indulgent for her, and made all her favorite meals whether or not they were on the menu.

Her parents, her father was the chef, were both excellent cooks and I grew up having most of my meals over at their house.

The one thing that she did do well, was Pot roast, and outside of the parsnips and cremini mushrooms (she used regular ones from Key Food) this recipe is pretty close to hers.  That surprised surprised me when I caught this in the New York Times, Food section last week, but then I knew it was a great dish so it makes sense.

Bon appetit.
