“It’s essentially the serial killer of drugs.” That’s an addiction counselor’s take on Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that can be 100 times more potent than morphine and that now causes more deaths in some parts of the U.S. than heroin. This drug got headlines when musician impresario Prince died before going into rehab back in April. Unfortunately this year, ex-junkies (Carrie Fisher, Geo Michael, Keith Emerson, Prince) are dropping like flies.
In my life, I’ve noticed the 50-60 timeline a big time for most to depart, typically from heart failure as they’ve taxed that organ too many times and now is too weak to pump and meet their overzealous demands. Some like Emerson or Phillip Seymour Hoffman, can’t deal with the reality and take the final plunge themselves. it’s a vicious habit and few get out without some lasting effect.
