In 2018, The Voice of the Martyrs released the award-winning film Tortured for Christ, a dramatic retelling of Pastor Richard Wurmbrand’s 14-year imprisonment because of his comments that Christianity and Communism cannot coexist — those idiotic bumper stickers notwithstanding. The flick is filmed entirely on location in Romania, including from the prison where the good pastor suffered in solitary confinement.
Richard Wurmbrand, was born Nicolai Ionescu (March 24, 1909 – February 17, 2001) of Jewish descent. In 1938 he and his wife Sabina converted first to Anglicanism and then Lutheranism. He is the founder of the Voices of the Martyrs organization that is hosting this film. An evangelical minister, Sabina Wurmbrand predeceased her husband by six months.
